Mindy Allen has over a decade of experience in the education field having obtained a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Agnes Scott College as well as a degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Mindy has served as the Co-Chair of the Lowcountry Autism Consortium Exhibition Hall and she has volunteered at Unlimited Possibilities Social Group which provides a forum for teens and young adults with disabilities to meet and interact with one another. Mindy will be serving on the Diocese of Charleston School Advisory Council – Academic Excellence committee which advocates for inclusion programs in Catholic schools from Kindergarten through 8th Grade.
Mindy’s long-term vision would not be possible without the assistance of Leask Industries and their innovative leaders as well as the journey she traveled on with her son, who at the age of 23 months received a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The utter devastation and endless questions that flooded Mindy’s mind after hearing the word “autism” were overwhelming. She was not given a single resource or any relevant information to assist her in processing this life changing news. Luckily for her son, Mindy was undeterred and persevered in her quest for information and options for treatment which led her to a physician that specialized in environmental medicine. This doctor determined that her son’s autistic-like symptoms were due to lead poisoning and created a protocol for detoxification. By the time Mindy’s son entered kindergarten at age 6 he did so without the need for an Individual Education Plan (IEP), all due to the determination of his mother and ingenuity of an innovative physician.
Mindy’s journey through the world of being a new parent gave her the inspiration for what would ultimately be known as “Resource Connector”. Once her son recovered and showed no remaining autistic-like symptoms it became clear to Mindy that there was an obvious need to be filled in terms of a comprehensive resource guide for new parents and families which would promote early intervention services in the critical time window from birth to five years of age in addition to providing an all-encompassing blueprint for any given diagnosis.
Mindy lives on Daniel Island with her husband, two daughters and one son. When Mindy is not advocating for others she enjoys cooking, spending time with her family at Wrightsville Beach and visiting with her godchildren.
